-Let her go, Jenkins, Mallory said. She knew Cozette, and once she had made up her mind, it was difficult to change it. Furthermore, her people needed her help, maybe more than Earth did. It was their moment of destiny.

-Come one, we better ride as fast as we can to base. Time is running out!

That stubborn girl was still doing what she wanted. They have waited hundreds of years and she can't wait for a day to form a plan and work a coordinate assault. The cries and shouts of the city made a mental image on his mind about what was happening on the city.

- I can't leave this city now with all that people been killed, but I can't ask you to come in a suiccide mission. As I told you I had a risky plan that involves offering Khepri his most wanted things and then threaten him what he most fear. The plan need to come back to base. I can addapt it but it will be a lot more risky. I am open to new ideas also.

Hal then waited for the answers of Mallory and Kherian.

Keiran expression was more thoughtful than usual. According to his common behaviour he should have been pleased with Jenkins' idea but he was shaking his head slowly with a sad expression of someone who is trying to choose between two difficult situations

"I'm afraid that this is not our war. Not now. They have made their choice and we don't have the right to interfere... And, we have problems that require immediate at home. I'm sure that Dr Frasier and all her team have worked to solve the problem but... what if that hasn't been enough? You're in command Lieutenant, I'll follow you.... whichever your decision is"

-Best to let her go, for now, Mallory insisted. -Do not underestimate her, Jenkins. She can probably cope with all this better than us.

There are many things you could learn from her.

-We need to go to base, gather some information and prepare a plan. Then we return here, OK?

Hal shook his head showing and understanding expresion on his face. Soldiers are used to risk their lives for other but civilians want to be safe. He hoped the base had found a cure and that Mallory and Keiran could return and be safe.

- I am not useful on the base with the virus and I cann't left all this civilians alone, nor that damned girl. Go to the base and take the ark and leave it on the cabin. I will come back to Napoleon and do my best. Have the radio open but don't contact me until I do it first. Farewell and good luck.

All of a sudden, Jenkins stopped and decided to go back to the city. He wants to be the hero now?, Mallory frowned. But he did have a point. The situation at the base and in SG-1 with the virus was a medical matter, not a military one.

However, there was at least one problem with the plan.

-You are the leader of the mission, Jenkins. Do you reckon Earth will accept my word or myself to make decisions regarding the mission? The virus maybe, but the mission, and the thing with Napokhepri...

Yep, I'm good at making up names.

-Anyways, I will do my best. Best to check radio communications work, at least while we are inside the force field.

Keiran jumped over his horse and looked at Jenkins with despair and hesitation. He was not sure about what was their chances to accomplish the mission without the guide of Jenkins. It was really hilarious. 6 people form the Sg-21, 4 militaries and 2 civilians and the SGC's fate was in the civilians' hands... hilarious!

"We'll do our best Lieutenant. Don't risk your life without a good reason. As soon as we arrive to the boundaries of the force field we will contact with you... Good Luck, Hal. "

You're going to need tons of luck to survive.... 

Mallory and Keiran rode as quick as they could. They weren't experts in riding but the horses were noble and docile enough to make them easy to ride at their top speed for about an hour.

Unfortunately, their efforts didn't have the desired reward. They were late. If something had happened at the SGC they hadn't had the chance to help. 

"And now what Mallory?. Should we enter the field force with the ark of it could be a better option to dial home and know if there is any place to send the ark of everything has blown out.?"

You crossed the river back to the city heading your steps toward the terrified shouts of the locals. It was really easy to find the reason of the shouts, a goaul'd figther or something that was the equivalent of an F18 or F22 had taken off and now it was shooting with no mercy to the population. 

You could  see the population fleing away while Cozzette assembled some of her loyals. A few words were spoken using their gaelic language and their people began to move in all the directions, spreading them in all the directions trying to be a difficult target for the fighter.

You also could see a that the people fleing were mostly young people while the elder ones were marching toward the palace. A shivering sensation went through your body, you were almost sure that the elder were sacrificing their lifes to let the younger to escape..... and leeding the rush was Cozzette.

-No, we leave the ark in safe place within the force field. Jenkins mentioned something about a cottage nearby, that will do. Somewhere hidden.

Mallory had a difficult time concentrating. She was worried about Cozette and her people.

-Then we go to base and dial home. I hope they are OK... down there, at ... home.

The word "home" forced her to hold back the tears. She missed home. She missed her family, her friends. Well, she missed her family. And lazy Saturday afternoons watching films alone eating popcorn. She missed Domino's pizzas.

Keiran nodded vigourously before answering

"I agree. We are so lucky that we can make our own decissions without the Lieutenant's interference. Don't get me wrong, I think he is a nice guy without any experience and too much willing of cause problems with the locals... poor Cozzette, it must have been tough for her receiving that treatment from a man. This is an amazing society. In certain aspects they remind me Amazons so much"

They started to ride more slowly to let the horses rest from their hard journey when they saw, behing the thickset the Valjean's cabain. It was empty, as it was supposed, and it would be as good hideaway as possible. They left the ark and continued their ride towards the stargate where they arrived 10 minutes later. The field force was there and they walked through it without any problem. Their camp base remained safe and the gate was ready for the dialing sequence

Keiran stared at Mallory and began to push the chevrons with his fingers crossed. When all the seven chevrons were marked the door opened with its characteristic blue whirlwind. The door was still functioning but it was impossible to know if they would be anyone alive in the other side.

The image of the city filled of despair the hearth of Hal. He had warned Cozzette about that, if only she had give him and the Earth's leaders enough time to work a plan to help them without civilian casualties. Now he only had a crazy plan, but he was minded to go to the end even at the cost of his live.

The first part of the plan was get into to temple and talk to Napoleon. He had his horse and expected that the guards allowed him to go in. If they try to stop him he will try to convinced them that he brings important information for Khepri.

Thinking about all this he spurred his horse directly into the city. 

The locals tried to mantain occupied the fighter above the city, taking cover and running along the streets making themselves hard to be hit. It seemed to be working because the alien fighter didn't come far away the city, focusing their fire in the city, bombarding civilians without mercy. On the other hand, While the elder gice the guards an easy target to take, the youth was leaving the city pretty quickly, in every direction, like ants trying to escape from a magnifing glass in a sunny day. There were some corpses on the street but the quantity of casualties was low in front of the people who could flee from the city.

Hal rode at full speed, ignoring the suffering of the civilians, trying to make as hard as possible his heart in order to accomplish his mission: Defeat Khepri or at least buy some extra time that could be crutial for both, civilians and his own team. It was rather surprising that the amount of guards in the city was smaller than he thought. Small patrols of 2 or 3 beetle guards were punishing the club-and-stones armed civilians trying to push them away the pyramid so he didn't have any problem to reach the pyramid doors. There He found the greatest part of the guard, 15 guards leaded by Tollen forming a semicircle shape in front of the door. Tollen looked at you with surprise and led you in presence of his God. The almighty Khepri.

In the throne room, Khepri was seated showing an amusement and joyful face about what was happening in the city. He waved his hand, slapping something insignificant like a fly, before speaking

"Don't worry about them, they try to do something like that every 5 or 10 years. This rebellion will be suffocated in a blink of an eye....So, you have returned, Lieutenant, and you're not bringing anyone to negotiate. Are you willing to die? I can be rather useful if this is your desire...."

There were 3 guards in the room armed with their staffs next to Khepri,with the helmet hiding his faces,  and Tollen, unmasked,  was behind Hal.

Hal showed a really concerned expresion.

- Sir, I bring really bad news. As we travelled back to the stargate we have been informed that the virus was totally out of control and the base at Earth have been detonated to stop the spread of the virus. Mallory got really upset and joined that pesky girl who belives she is a new version of Joan of Arc and they are leading the insurrect to the palace. She belived that the ark you offered us is a explosive device or a trap an plan to bring it inside the Palace and open it here.

Hal paused a momment to check the reaction of Khepri about the comment about opening the box at the palace, in order to confirm if the ark was a trap as they belived. Then he continued:

- Now I can't to come back to Earth. I am trapped here. But I am a soldier and I know you are a great general who can command me great deeds. So I ask you humbly to join your service. As a present I bring you the key to the Stargate.

Hal then takes slowly his radio device and show it to Khepri.

- At the base the scientist woman told us this ECM disrruptor can stop the obelisks barrier. Major Paul Davis knows how this device works, if you bring my companions here I can explain them the situation and convinced them to join your side too. They are the best soldiers but they need also the best general to work for a great cause.
