After a quick recognition Mallory asked Captain Latimer to don't go away in order to control any chance of spreading a illness.

"Your turn doctor Byrne". She called them using the "come here" gesture made by Neo at matrix films and while she was chuckling gently.

Major Davis walked to the first sent MALP and pulled it to the stargate. 3 pulls after the MALP was outside of the jamming field and it worked perfectly.

"Ok then. The monolith should be affecting our communications. But we can use our lanterns to send messages. 1 click means everything is OK, and a flashing light there ir a problem. Sergeant Smith, please help Jenkins with the tents. He seems to be in trouble..."

Samith smiled at Major Davis request. Mounting a military tent is not easy if you are alone..

"Yes, sir!. We will have a fire camp and we will be toasting marshmallows in ten minutes!"

Smith came and helped me to mount the tents. Between us, we managed to do it quicker and soon the camp was established and operational.

Good work Sergeant.

I report to Major Davis.

Major, the camp is ready. What are the orders now?
 

Major Davis looked at the civilians with a funny face..

"I think that you are going to be the nanny while me and Latimer explore the blue mineral in the quarry and take some samples. Please, try to keep them safe... and don't let Doctor Byrne to touch anything until Doctor Davis is sure that he is OK. We will keep in touch with the lanterns. One click every 15 minutes or flashing light if we need help."

Then he told Latimer "Come on Latimer, it's time to enlarge my mineral collection." and they walked to the quarry, where lots of blue crystal were waiting for them.

All that chatter about me touching anything started to feel unpleasant. But I understand that military men needed to feel like they were actually doing something. I went to the doctor's office. Being checked by such gentle hands wouldn't hurt.

- OK, Doctor Davis, I'm all yours.

I knew nothing was happening, but double-checking was a good idea.

When Keiran entered in the medical tent the scents of alcohol and medicines were mixed with the fragance coming from Doctor Davis, something fresh and exotic but rather difficult to identity.

When she closed the tent door her face turned from a gentle smile to a pretended scaring face..

"So, you are mine, aren't you? Muahahahahaha. Let's begin with the "tests" with the subject.." She tried to laugh like a mad scientists but her try only made her more charming.

She took Keiran's constants and a blood vial to compare with the samples taken at Earth but when she was finishing her exam something strange concerned Mallory.

"Doctor, I'm afraid that I have bad news.. unless you have a rather strange taste in your corporal decoration you have a golden tattoo with something similar to a hieroglyph in your nape. I'm going to take a sample of your skin to analyze..it's going to hurt, a bit.. I'm so sorry"

She took a bistoury and took a small piece of Keiran's skin with golden pigment in it.

"I can't do anything until I have the results but in the meantime you are going to take wide spectrum antibiotics."

Her face turned into a serious and professional mask while she told Keiran

"You are not allowed to exit your tent until I have the results....Perhaps you can mantain yourself entertained trying to figure what's the meaning of your tattoo"

She showed a photo of the tattoo....

"Take this two pills now. I will have your results from 4 to 6 hours... and try to relax"

Doctor davis adressed directly to Lieutenant Jenkins and Sergeant Smith

"I have sent Keiran to his tent. He has a pretty weird tattoo in his nape and I think that it has relation with the contact with the monolith. Don't touch anything that look like alien and you will be safe...When Major Davis come back please report to him... I will be at the medical tent"

From the upper side of the quarry you saw a click from a light torche. It seemed that everything was going OK with Major Davis and Captain Latimer.

I was worry about the doctor's words, I felt the impulse of asking. - Doctor, Is it necessary to examine us too? I mean, if the Doc had caught anything maybe us caught it too. - The flash from the Major was good news, at last something appear to going well.

The Doctor Davis' appearance was too charm. Besides my concern about our health, I was really worry about her safety... I couldn't repeat that nightmare again... maybe if I stay wake up and close to the doctor I can avoid anything that can hurt her. I thought this is going to be my duty.

I stared at the photo, pretty worried about it. From where did they come?

- Hasn't Latimer showed something similar? She was stuck by the same red light.

I grabbed the pic from Davis's hands.

- Damn... I'll take your advice and try to decipher this. Please, I wouldn't like to have this on the neck for the rest of my life.

And I went to my tent, trying to focus on the painting and making a big effort to ignore it was on my skin.

Doctor Davis payed attention patiently to Smith's words and answered

"I am afraid that everything is possible, but you don't have presented any symptoms yet so for the time being you are going to be OK for a while. If you have any flu symptoms or a golden tattoo appears in your body it will be the moment for a Doctor's visit. I'm worried about Keiran. I'm an expert at all kinds of infectious disease but I have never seen something like that.. It could be inocuous, or the next black death....It's rather soon to make conjectures but until I'm 100% sure that we are free of any kind of disease we will be stay here"

Her sweet eyes showed a genuine concerned expression but her words brought the militaries the calm of knowing that they were in the best hands.

Mallory shook her head slowly while her sweet blue eyes showed her concern

"I'm afraid that Captain Latimer was tattoo free, and the guys are also free. I don't know if the origin of your body art comes from your physical contact with the monolith, from the beam or from other unknown reason but it's something that must be checked. According to your examination yo are OK, but I need to analyze your blood and golden eczema to discard any potential problem for the mankind when we were back"

She tried to smile to play down the issue and continued talking

"Don't be afraid. I know a man that can remove a tattoo for 20 bucks if you don't like... but I think the tattoo suits with your personality"

While Major Davis and Captain Latimer continued their exploration of the forest, we had a little big issue to handle with. A strange tattoo appeared on Keiran's body since he touched the monolith.

We all had been examined by the doctor but only Keiran has a tattoo on him. I walked around the monolith looking for something strange, a hole or whatever that could be the font of the flash that shocked Keiran and gifted him with a drawing in his skin.

I didn't understand the symbols at all. It looked like chinesse for me but I tried to find anything else useful.

Hal examined the monolith carefully but paying attention for not touching it but nothing new comes from his examination. While he was patrolling around the stone he saw a signal from a lantern. One click. It seemed that everything was right.

A flashing light came from the quarry and you are sure that it was not the light of a lantern. It's supposed that you were going to receive an OK signal in ten minutes' time.

The strange tattoo in the doctor's body was something to worry about. In spite of the kindly Davis's words, I'm still worried about the whole camp. A weird sensation runs through my whole body. Maybe these symbols are like a cattle brand and now some superior beings knows our location.

Any way I must to be alert. As much as I try to decipher the fucking monolith I do not think I get anything, so I focus on patrolling the camp. I grab my weapon and beging to walk around, without taking my eye off the part of the forest where the shelter and the big man were.

Then I saw a flashing light, but this flash... this flash did not come from the lantern of the Mayor. Quickly I said to Hal. - Lieutenant, they have problems. I'm going to backup them. - I scream to Hal and I start to run. In the whole way to there I try to communicate with the Mayor. - Sir, Is everthing Ok? I saw a strange flash.
