Hurd and Sinta carefully turn Harvey Stenbaugh over. The right hand and foreman of Vince Bronson has a nasty looking wound in his forehead, but the one he has in his chest looks far more serious. Harvey is still unconscious. The bullet hit him on the left side. Most likely a broken rib, and it is possibly there is some internal bleeding or a lodged bullet. But first thing would be to clean the wound to avoid infection, and then try to diagnose.

Sinta knew Hurd could tend a wound. She let him take the initiative with the hole, while she took a handkerchief from inside her shirt and made it wet with whatever was in Harvey´s flask (cheap whiskey, quite likely, but at least it would help in cleaning the wound).

- Here, Hurd, take this...

Hurd tries his best to clean the wound with the help from Sinta, and using alcohol to sterilize. Good thing Harvey was a man who liked his whiskey, and not exactly cheap firewater either. Sinta and Hurd are both hoping to get a more permanent job at the Bronson ranch, so it would not be good to let the foreman die in their hands...

Crowe is getting a bit nervous about the situation with Harvey. One of the bandits is tied up now, and the other one will probably die sooner rather than later.
 

Hurd took the whiskey offered by Sinta to clean the wound of Harvey. - This can work. Thank you. - Replied without neglecting the wounded man.

After he tried to clean the wound with a handkerchief soaked of Sinta carefully, he looked sidelong at Harvey to observe his reactions.

- Do you think you can remove the bullet? I will keep him still... Otherwise we'll need to take him to the ranch as soon as possible...

Hurd and Sinta cleaned Harvey´s wound thoroughly, and there was no immediate danger of infection. But he had at least one broken rib, and the bullet was not visible to be removed. There was a slim chance it had gone through, but it was too risky to remove Harvey´s clothing to find out if there was an exit hole in his back. Most likely the bullet was lodged. That could be lethal if it festered in the next day or so. Also, there was still a risk of further internal damage or bleeding.

This was no place to perform even basic surgery with a simple knife. On the other hand, they were quite far away from the  Bronson ranch as they were scouting the Wolf Pass. Crowe could ride there and get some help, and in the meantime Sinta and Hurd could take Harvey to a close by ranch owned by Vernon Adams.

Vern was one of the longest serving cowboys that rode for Bronson, and he now owned a small ranch and some cattle. He was also a competent physician and probably had the necessary medical equipment.

- Damn it, it's no use! It's well inside him! We need help!

Looking at Hurd cleaning the wound, she continued:

- Maybe we can take him to the Vern ranch. It is not that far, and Vern will have better tools to take the bullet out. Meanwhile, Crowe can ride to the ranch and get help. What do you reckon? ---Hurd did not say anything---. We will need to take that sumbitch with us, so that Crowe can ride faster. I am just sorry about the other bastard. He will die if we leave him here, and he will die if we try to move'im. He is as good as dead, but he will take the slow and painful way out...
